Wind II, completed painting

I recently finished the second of my Wind series.  It is oil on linen and is 21 x 29 inches.

Below is a sketch of a capercaillie for a drawing on which I am currently working.

PaperCity Houston & Other News

This month I was published in the ArtNotes sections of PaperCity Houston.  A photo of me and a friend was also included for the Canvases and Cocktails event at Colton & Farb Gallery.  I have also been taken up by Artcessible, a Houston-based art dealer.

In other news, I have been working on several paintings while in Barcelona – some commissions and some personal projects.  After a several-month hiatus, I have returned to the animal painting commission that goes with the Tiger.  I will also be starting an interior in the beginning of May, which is something new that I am really looking forward to.  I have been asked to design and paint the ceiling of the living room of an apartment here in Barcelona.

Frio – BWR

I realize I have been remiss since I have arrived in Barcelona.  Part of the reason for this is that I was having major shipping problems with my paintings.  However, they are all here now!  At long last!

Here is another painting I have finished for the BWR project:

Since cold was one of the things the skippers had to deal with during the race, I wanted to capture that in at least one of the paintings.  I simultaneously wanted to create a type of “sister piece” for Viento.  It is 10 x 30 inches and, as usual, oil on canvas.

Barcelona, Once Again We Meet

Sagrada Familia

Sagrada Familia

I am in Barcelona for the arrival of Team Neutrogena and to set up everything with regards to my artwork.  My paintings arrive soon enough and I will be able to finish the remaining pieces.

I have already discovered a great art supply store here in Barcelona.  It is called Barna Art and is located on Rosselló near Bailen and Girona.  They had pretty much everything needed for oil painting and had some amazing custom-made stretchers.  I felt like ordering weirdly sized stretchers for some unknown future use but was somehow able to control myself.

Velocidad / Speed : BWR

The boat is an architectural space that intersects the landscape and (re)defines it.  The black spaces in the painting are points where three-dimensionality starts to fall apart as well as pauses in the movement.  I wanted to introduce the “black space” which features in my ink drawings into my painting.  They are locations were the eye can rest but also invite the viewer to sink into the painting. This painting is part of the series done for Marks: The Barcelona World Race Journey.  In this three-month long project, I was working together with Team Neutrogena and the Barcelona World Race.

I have just finished one more painting for Marks.  In fact, my brief disappearance has been due to my endeavor.  I have been dedicating all my time to painting as the shipping date comes closer.

There is a 5th painting that is very close to completion.  I plan on finishing it tomorrow or Friday.
