Salome: Decadent Portrait
I recently finished a 26 x 38 inch Salome painting based off Oscar Wilde’s play. Is the hand Salome’s or Jokanaan’s?
Salome Project – Dead Coloring
The dead coloring for my first larger-than-life Salome painting is complete! Here’s a close-up of part of the painting to whet the appetite.

Belvedere Torso – Dead Coloring
Today I completed the dead coloring of the Belvedere torso cast painting. Hopefully this layer will dry quickly! In the meantime, I can start drawing my larger painting on its canvas.

Belvedere Torso – Stages 1 & 2
This small painting of the Belvedere torso is the first painting I am working on in my new space. The original Greek statue is in the Vatican art collection and it greatly influenced Renaissance artists. It is said that the Pope Julius II asked Michelangelo to “fix” the statue (as he did with the Laocoön), but Michelangelo refused because he thought the statue was perfect in its damaged state.
This particular painting is a replica of Charles Bargue’s drawing of the statue, and as such will hopefully be a fast side project to work on while my larger painting is trudging along.

A Casualty of Painting
I have just completed a large painting that was filled with so many details, that my smallest brush simply could not handle the abuse. The situation was getting so out of hand (I was determined to use that brush until it was simply impossible) that the results are absurd and hilarious. I’ve bought a replacement brush and then took a photograph for comparisons sake. They are the same kind of brush, though you can hardly see the two bristles left on the old one.
Portrait Commission Completed!
I just delivered a portrait commission yesterday to two very happy clients! It is a portrait of a soldier and his daughter. Written on the bottom left-hand corner of his jacket is the title of the painting: “A Soldier’s Dream, A Daughter’s Wish.”
